  • Growing the Beard: While Season 1 isn't bad, Season 2 is a marked improvement. The stories are much scarier and more creative, and the ongoing mystery becomes much more interesting.
  • The Woobie:
    • Brianne Scanlon is a normal young woman whose boyfriend Malcolm Foy is taken over by the Grinner, and pressured into joining his cult the Order of the Divine Ones under the threat of death after being dragged to the first meeting at his insistence. She's promptly placed under brainwashing and used as a disposable minion, and her attempts to break free are met with gaslighting. When she finally succeeds in this, the Grinner begins tormenting her and her brother Benjamin for daring to defy him, and Ron's plan to expel the beast leads to Benjamin dying and her traumatized. And after that, she starts being tormented by the things that lurk inside the dream world for unknown reasons.
    • Maxwell Tannard from "Original Beast". He's captured on a mission behind enemy lines and constantly tortured for six months before Ivan takes over the interrogation and starts sharing his story about being the first werewolf. When Tannard expresses sympathy for Ivan by admitting he would've killed his captors too, he inadvertently accepts the curse and is transformed into an immortal werewolf, having the same fate as Ivan.
    • Marjorie DeLonge from "The Cat Lady" is a Kindhearted Cat Lover whose beloved wife dies of cancer almost immediately after they accomplish their dream of opening up an animal rescue shelter for cats. Marjorie chose to continue running the shelter to preserve her wife's memory, only for the titular Humanoid Abomination to begin breaking in at night and eating several of the cats. When she catches it in the act, their encounter leaves her so traumatized that she moves out of her house and gives up the shelter altogether, donating the cats to another shelter.
    • The narrator of "Charlie" is a terminal cancer patient whose only joy comes from her Only Friend Alex's visits to the hospital, only for her to move. Alex sends her a device that allows them to share lucid dreams together, only for the titular entity to come in and whisk Alex off to some unknown dream realm, leaving the narrator alone. Though she does recover from their cancer, she's still implied to be haunted in her dreams by Alex and Charlie.
