• Adaptation Displacement: At least outside Japan, the series is far more known than the anime, not to even mention the original manga.
• Alternative Character Interpretation: How much Ryoko is going through hazing-like jokes towards all newcomers, and how much she's genuinely trying to scare them off, so her mother will have to close the house or at least have less apprentices, thus paying more attention to Ryoko?
