On top of that, his doppelganger is absolutely merciless in calling out Dean on his BS and forcing him to face the fact that John Winchester loved Sam more despite all of Dean's loyalty and hero-worship. He even goes so far as to imply Dean has subsumed his own identity to try and please his father. It's not pretty and Dean is pretty shattered by the end.
