The actors look enough alike to be related and a hero/ine's new love interest turning out to be related to a villain is a standard plot twist, especially with Matteo's last name having been unmentioned and his family conspicuously unseen.
• Catharsis Factor: Many fans had been waiting for someone to point out that Jonathan is just as much a half-Kryptonian as Jordan is, powers or not, leading to much rejoicing when Clark finally says it here. Although he only does so after Jonathan explicitly self-identifies as a human, along with Lois, but not Jordan. Thus drawing a line down the middle of the family that Clark realizes he has to fix. Especially after going back on his word that the new Fortress was for the whole family, not just him and Jordan, only to get angry to find Jonathan there questioning his grandmother.
