• Special Effect Failure: The coalescent lifeform's true form showed the dangers of trying to realise alien creatures via CGI in this era. As the effects supervisor himself noted, it looks at best like Mr. Peanut, and at worst like an animated turd.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The dog being the killer and a shapeshifting alien is convenient, it would have been more interesting if Aquiel really had been the murderer and Geordi learned a much needed lesson about keeping his personal love life separate from his work.
