• Heartwarming Moments:
  • The trio finally reuniting in The Return after being separated for nearly a century. When Riker first tells Spock that Kirk and McCoy are on board, he's sure that he sees Spock actually smile at that news. McCoy is getting up in years and showing it, and Kirk may only have days to live, but if only for a moment, they're finally together again, with Spock affirming "I am... most pleased to see you again, Captain" and McCoy immediately exasperated at Spock being so cool after eighty years (Spock immediately corrects the doctor that it has been "Seventy-eight point four years" since he last met Kirk). Their reunion in Avenger is equally tender.
  • Even when Kirk is brainwashed to kill Picard, he still goes out of his way not to hurt anyone else in the process. Apparently no amount of brainwashing can erase Kirk's instinct to protect and preserve, even when facing what (for him) is the anomaly of a Klingon in a Starfleet uniform.
• Salvaged Story: The series serves to fix Kirk's underwhelming sendoff in Star Trek: Generations by reviving Kirk and giving him the opportunity to have his own adventures the 24th century. It also reunites Kirk with Spock, McCoy, and Scotty.
