• Anvilicious: As if it doesn't already beat us over the head with its HIV allegory, the episode doesn't even succeed as a "message show." Why? Because the attitudes displayed by the Vulcans and condemned by the episode were no longer prevalent when this episode aired in 2003. By then, America had by-and-large moved past believing HIV/AIDS was strictly a gay disease or that those infected didn't even deserve treatment. So the episode becomes even more anvilicious since it was preaching to the choir.
• Special Effects Failure: The people at the conference centre are very obviously CGI.
