YMMV / Spellfire

Go To

  • Misblamed: The card game was blamed for the bankruptcy of Creator/TSR by some. In actuality, TSR's intellectual property defenses, attacking of otherwise-loyal customers (due to people supplying game material on Internet sites), and endless campaign settings and subpar novels pretty much doomed the company. Lorraine Williams, who ran the company, was responsible for the edict that forbade playtesting of TSR games on-site ... which led to Spellfire being bad when first published, gaining a reputation it could never recover from.
  • The Problem with Licensed Games: The game was hastily put together CCG based on Dungeons & Dragons and mostly reused art, created by TSR to cash in on the Magic fad while it lasted. Three years later, TSR went bankrupt and was bought by WOTC, the creators of Magic... but not before being reduced to using photos of TSR employees in extremely crude costumes as card "art."
