YMMV / Sensitive Boy

  • Broken Base: The manga ending Kaede's story in chapter 35 and completely shifting the focus of the story on his friend Izumi is a divisive decision. Some don't mind it as they felt that Kaede's story was done and find it interesting that the story will focus on different issues of different boys, while others felt that Kaede's story should have been the whole focus of the manga and Izumi's story is less interesting.
  • Moral Event Horizon: The trainee teacher seen in Kaede's flashbacks crossed it by taking advantage of his goodwill and raping him. She only gets worse when she tries to murder him after encountering him again, and she even has the gall to blame him for her current state of life even though she brought it upon herself.
  • Realism-Induced Horror: The manga spares no effort in showing not only how plausibly Kaede's rape could happen (the rapist was a teacher in Kaede's previous school who took advantage of his goodwill and kindness, granting her the opportunity to assault him), but with how realistically the aftermath is depicted: Kaede suffers from serious mental and emotional scars, such as having traumatic flashbacks whenever a girl gets close to him; he withdraws completely, not even going outside; and he moves away from his former friends — exactly like many real life survivors of sexual assault. Additionally, the rapist blames Kaede for ruining her life and ending her chances of becoming a teacher even though it was her own fault, exactly like many convicted rapists in real life.
