• Tear Jerker: In flashback, Joseph Albright's parents are revealed to be vile monsters. Who upon learning that Emma, the daughter of servants who work for their family, managed to defeat their son Joseph in a chess game. Not only use magic to torture their own son as "punishment" for losing. They go and murder not just the poor girl herself, but also her entire family. All over their son losing, at a chess game. (The sequence was only briefly described in the novel but is shown fully in the anime.)
