  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Was Bellows killing Ravi in the finale just to cover his tracks for hiring a murderer? Or was Bellows also driven by the guilt of having falsely gone after Madeline and this was his way of atoning for ruining her life?
  • Romantic Plot Tumor: Maddie and Dylan. The first episode reveals that Dylan is only pursuing Madeline to try and get a confession of guilt out of her, so it's hard to care about them out of the gate, but then the show keeps cutting away from each episode's plot to show them on dates. It doesn't help that Dylan's professed reasons for dating Madeline are based on Informed Attributes, and thus just make it look like he's buttering her up.
  • Tearjerker: "Acceptable Losses", full stop. In the "A" plot, Madeline and Violet rush back to Cleveland to try and save a death-row inmate, and fight a losing battle against a system that just doesn't care about justice. In the "B" plot, Easy takes on what should be a slam-dunk case but instead finds himself butting heads with his beloved old mentor, who is serving as the judge on the case and whose faculties are failing him so badly that he doesn't even recognize a citation that he himself wrote. The judge refuses to accept it until he realizes he can't remember his own case. He notes how Easy could have forced the judge to recuse himself and made a big stink about it but didn't want to humiliate the man. Easy just cries "it's how you taught me." Moved, the judge announces the next day in court he's stepping down.
