YMMV / Patlabor: The Movie

Go To

  • Adaptation Displacement: This film is much better-known outside Japan than the OVA it follows, which didn't get an English-language release until 2003.
  • Continuity Lockout: SF Debris lightly criticizes the movie in his review for being somewhat overreliant on familiarity with the Mobile Police Patlabor: The Early Days OVA, expecting the audience to already have a connection to and knowledge of the characters.
  • Woolseyism: The English dub adds a line from Asuma when he's reviewing files at Shinohara headquarters where he observes, ahead of anyone else in the story, that Ei'ichi Hoba's name "sounds like Jehovah"—a Biblical allusion that only works with Western name order and therefore isn't as obvious in the original Japanese. This is also the scene where he discovers the Babel virus embedded in HOS, and it fits well with his analytical mindset for him to spot the clue to Hoba's God Complex ahead of Gotoh's later monologue where he spells it out to Nagumo.
