• Signature Scene:
  • Murphy taking off in the repaired plane, gradually mastering the controls, and then going on a bombing run against the sub is one of the most talked about parts of the movie.
  • Murphy uses the crane barge to try to ram the sub, which tries to fend him off with gunfire and a torpedo, and then dives under so Murphy's ramming attempt narrowly misses.
• The Woobie: Dr. Hayden, as she vainly tries to talk Murphy out of his consuming revenge (with her failure also runing their UST) and has to watch the retaliating Germans repeatedly invade her hospital, first to kill a patient under her care and then to destroy her work.
