YMMV / Mr Bates vs The Post Office

Go To

  • Catharsis Factor: The accused subpostmasters getting their convictions overturned. After enduring years of slander and heartache, the wrongful convictions are not merely dismissed as an unfortunate mistake and swept under the rug, the prosecutions get unequivocally condemned and the subpostmasters categorically exonerated in full view of the media, and attention is drawn to how their convictions were so egregious they have been publicly branded "an affront to the conscience of the court" by the judgement.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: The drama caused so much public outrage that public opinion swung hard against the Post Office, Fujitsu, and those in power at the time of the scandal. This resulted in a flurry of activity as the British government started trying to overturn convictions and the police opened criminal investigations. Fujitsu even admitted culpability after years of denials.
