• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: One scene, usually cut from syndication, features Col. Potter giving a speech praising Harry Truman, comparing him favorably to Lincoln.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: Both B.J. and Potter are asked by Roberts whether they would like to maintain communication with the rest of the camp after the war is over, to which both men answer that they most certainly would. In real life, the cast members have done just that, even setting up an annual reunion through the years.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Potter mentions being drawn to the cavalry by seeing films about them starring Douglas Fairbanks and Francis X. Bushman. In 1986, Harry Morgan would marry Barbara Bushman Quine, Francis' granddaughter.
