  • And You Thought It Would Fail: Needless to say, there was A LOT going against this musical succeeding.
    • The musical premiered just two and a half years after the release of the documentary Leaving Neverland, which highlighted two new accusations of child sexual abuse against Jackson, with some in the public sphere calling for the production to be canceled because of it.
    • It also had the misfortune of being in development during the COVID-19 Pandemic, which moved the musical's premiere from its original date of July 2020 to December 2021.
    • Ephraim Sykes, the original actor cast to play adult Michael Jackson stayed on with the production even after several delays, but ended up leaving in the middle of 2021 to star in a movie, leaving the role to be filled by a relatively unknown 22-year old actor named Myles Frost.
    • In the end, not only has MJ: The Musical gone on to be one of the biggest smash hits of post-COVID Broadway, it was nominated for TEN Tony Awards and won four of them, including Frost winning Best Actor in a Musical.
