• Spiritual Successor: Though it's unlikely any of the show's staff members have seen Doraemon, Lyla in the Loop is quite similar to it and is almost like a western adaptation of it. Both series center around a blue cat-like creature (Doraemon and Stu) who helps out a human kid (Nobita and Lyla). Doraemon is a robot, and Stu is neither a robot or a live creature, though he does behave in specific, rule-following ways.
• Tainted by the Preview: Before the show premiered, those outside the target audience reacted poorly towards the announcement that the show would have interactive episodes using AI technology, due to the controversy surrounding AI. However, it was also revealed that the show would have an episode tackling the ethical issues of AI in an age-appropriate manner, which soothed things somewhat. Eventually, this negative sentiment disappeared, and when the show actually premiered, the reception was mostly positive.
• Watched It for the Representation: The show gained a lot of positive attention for centering around a Black, Jamaican family.
