YMMV / I Kissed Shara Wheeler

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Some readers find Chloe to be a likeable, believable and relatable character, especially when considering that she's a bisexual teenage girl in a very homophobic setting, but there is a group that find her to be too much of an obnoxious jerk to tolerate. Shara herself is similarly divisive, but the book doesn't follow her and she's not so much outright rude as she is manipulative and antagonistic behind the scenes, so she doesn't tick those readers off the same way Chloe manages to even if they ''do'' find her to be toxic.
  • Broken Base: Just as Chloe and Shara are divisive characters, their romance is also somewhat controversial. Some readers find it to be toxic and built on obsession rather than love. In general, a number of fans prefer the Beta Couple of Rory and Smith even if they don't really have any problems with Chloe and Shara.
