  • Values Dissonance: A major source of conflict in the film is homosexuality being illegal in West Germany at the time under Paragraph 175 of the German Criminal Code. Later in 1969, Paragraph 175 was revised to be far more lenient, with further reforms in 1973, though it would not be until 1994, following the reunification of Germany, that the law was finally repealed, thus allowing gay Germans to truly live their lives without fear of legal consequences.
