YMMV / Gene Catlow

Go To

  • Continuity Lock-Out: The comic has a pretty complicated plot, and in the grand scheme of things was still in the second story arc. People thinking of trying to start reading the comic usually run away screaming first.
  • Designated Monkey: Matt cannot catch a break given that the entirety of the main cast is against him and everyone is always able to read his mind.
  • Designated Villain: Matt is seen by all the heroes as an evil demonic figure who wants to bring in Cat Supremacy, but whenever he is present, he tends to come off more as a tragic figure who is surrounded by people who want to and will backstab him at every opportunity. His mentor and former bosses hate him, but he cares more about the survival of Feline Family than any of them do; he is opposed to treating anyone who disagrees with him with violence, he allows the members of Feline Family to leave if they don't agree with him, and overall seems like a fair employer and a competent family leader. He also made Cydnee realize her skills as matagot when previous leader of Feline Family, Jeremy, knew about Cydnee's matagot powers but chose to not tell her about them and forced her to be a dancer.
  • Nightmare Fuel: The entire "World of Friends" concept, believe it or not. Gene and Catwhis are trying to feed the life energy of the entire planet to Friendship Island to "unite the world and answer the call of the Island"; this is generally referred to as "World of Friends" or "World without Strangers", where everyone in the world knows eachother and nobody ever has secrets. The end goal of this plan is to apparently get rid of "ignorance", but the dystopic implications are much clearer where one of the pages show world governments protesting Gene and Catwhis' plan, calling it forced brainwashing. Add in the "Sight of the Soul", which anyone can use to contact anyone at any point from anywhere, and you have a surveillance dystopia gaslighted as a utopia where world peace has been established.
