YMMV / Futurama S8 E2: "Children of a Lesser Bog"

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation:
    • Leela getting drunk during the expository video on Amphibiosian reproduction is a (slightly out-of-character) call-back to her previous assumption she got Kif pregnant because she was drunk. However, it could also be read as her actively trying to suppress her feelings on the situation. While she never doubts that Amy is the kids' true mother, there is a moment she says she "kind of [is]" their mother. Given the episode alludes to her own trauma surrounding families, it's possible Leela may feel more complicated feelings than she lets on about technically having biological children, but is dialing them back to help Amy with her plight.
    • While everyone is crying tears of joy in the final scene, the final shot of the episode centers on Fry and Leela, arms around each other, watching Amy's kids reunite with their mother after the test. While the focus could just be because of Leela's role in the situation, as well as the fact she's particularly sensitive to the subject due to her own history of Parental Abandonment, it's a common fan reading that the kids may be a potential Baby Fever Trigger for Fry and Leela themselves.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: After years of begging Amy to have children, Inez and Leo immediately reject their grandchildren for being ugly aliens and leave. They don't appear during the rest of the episode, with Amy only mentioning her mom once, but showing no real concerns about her parents rejecting the children among all her other insecurities. The next time they appear in the Christmas Episode, despite some snarking about Kif's holiday traditions, they seem tolerant of the children. It could've added a lot to the conflicts to address the Wongs' rejection of their grandkids.
