YMMV / EXTRAPOWER: Attack of Darkforce

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Having to kill off Sunny Day and Funny Face towards the end of the game. Though they've been a thorn in the heroes' side since the Dark Force invasion landed in full force and happily attack unarmed civilians, they're mostly incompetent comic relief. Even the heroes say they were hard to hate, before moving on to the next fight.
  • Creepy Cute: The hell clowns Crown and Fool ranked surprisingly high in a popularity poll, despite being sadistic and psychotic. The devs couldn't quite explain it.
  • Demonic Spiders: The Master Denpa line of enemies. They're durable, hit hard, and can attack from remarkably long range. Given target priority logic, it's not uncommon for several Denpa to bully a single character for maximum damage. And they become much more common as the game advances.
  • Game-Breaker: Restoring a character's moves, allowing them to move and attack a second time in a turn after they have already done so. Ruritia can do this to any character she is adjacent to at the low cost of 12 ability points using Melfa's yellow prism. David and Marian can do this to every character touching them using the level 18 ability Lucky Lamp! A strategic player can have four characters use their most powerful attacks, plant David and Marian in between them, and have them all repeat the exact same ultimate attacks! With judicious use of EXTEND STATUS, it's possible to allow them multiple use of the Lucky Lamp per episode.
  • Minimalist Run: It's actually entirely possible to finish the entire game without buying or upgrading any hero's equipment. Unfortunately, this makes the game much more difficult as even fodder mooks will require precious skills to survive and bosses become far more dangerous, or even mathematically impossible with poor leveling. You'll likely build up all the bad end scores and hit a minimal heroes rank from more frequent unit retreats and taking thrice as many turns to cautiously clear a level, but it is entirely doable and makes a tense challenge.
  • That One Boss: Michael, especially in his second appearance at the start of the game's final third. Bad enough that he and his Angel Figures have obscenely long-range attacks, but they all have the ability of flight and can easily put themselves in position to erase any one of your units in a single turn. Hope you have Kurogane and Yukiko in a good position to bind at least two per turn...
