  • Critical Dissonance: Among critics, it was considered So Okay, It's Average, with good acting but a weak story, but audiences hated it outright; it is one of only 21 films to get an "F" from Cinema Score, which is based on audience polling.
  • Values Dissonance: The film was released in 2000, before Texas' anti-sodomy laws were overturned, and thus Dee Dee and Marilyn had a much stronger motive to conceal their relationship. Nowadays, Dee Dee would probably be considered Unintentionally Unsympathetic for leading her fiancee on just so that she had an excuse to spend more time with Marilyn.
