• The Woobie:
  • Harold, who lives with an abusive brother who relentlessly pummels him for minor infractions, and likely a mother and father who pay no mind to his suffering.
  • Brenner, the old farmer who created the scarecrow. His wife of 40 years died of an illness, leaving him incredibly lonely. He created the scarecrow to act as a form of company, but he was forced to watch as it came to life and ruthlessly murdered a girl scout who wandered onto his farm. The girl's death left him consumed with guilt, so he incapacitated the scarecrow by stabbing its crocheted heart with his cane, then went to his basement and killed himself with a shotgun.
