• Heartwarming in Hindsight: The episode came out before Dan Harmon's struggles with alcoholism became common knowledge. While this admittedly makes some of its moments (like the revelation of Shirley's past drinking problems) considerably more sad and somber, it also makes it all the more heartwarming when Troy ends the episode by choosing not to take a drink at midnight, instead leaving his drink on the bar while he exits the bar with his friends.

  Annie: Admit it! We went to high school together for four years and you didn't even know me.
  Troy: Yeah, but, I know you now.
