YMMV / Casey Jones

  • Values Resonance: For a show made during the 1950s, it had some pretty powerful messages in a few of its episodes. For example, "Spurline to Danger" sees an overzealous colonel abuse his authority and mistreat the Native American Sioux tribe living near the Army fort, and is prepared to execute two of them on sight for allegedly being involved in a bar fight. His right hand can’t stand how flagrantly horrible he’s being, and a government agent sent from Washington feels that he has gone too far with his mistreatment of the Sioux. When the fighting does break out, Casey is able to talk with the chief, acknowledging that the colonel’s mistreatment led to the fighting, and that no further bloodshed should occur. Given how the Native Americans were mistreated at the time (and unfortunately still are), this is definitely important to note.
