• He's Just Hiding: There are some fans who like to believe that the main characters somehow survived going over the top, sometimes even considering the deleted ending where Blackadder is the Sole Survivor to be Fanon. However, it's just as common (if not more so) for fans to actually invert the trope and claim that Blackadder and Baldrick were the last remaining members of their family — George and Darling already being established as having some relatives still alive — adding an extra element of tragedy in that their families were wiped out in this senseless war (and thereby consigning Blackadder Back & Forth to Fanon Discontinuity status). On the other hand, this being YMMV, there is no need to explain new versions of the other characters.
• One-Scene Wonder: Geoffrey Palmer's cameo as Field Marshall Haig.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Producer John Lloyd regrets that Haig's role is so minor, as he felt it was a waste of Geoffrey Palmer.
