• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: A reoccurring criticism about the series has been that fans of Alan thought that DC was going to explore his coming out as a much older man after years of being in the closet. Because this miniseries instead focuses on him in his youth during the 1940s, there've been complaints that DC already wrote about Alan as a young gay man in Earth 2. It doesn't help that there's been little to no focus on him in the present day aside from Justice Society of America (2022).
