• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Ray takes his sister out to watch what look like vents of steam on the family's lawn. What the steam is, or what's causing them, is never explained and never brought up again.
• Esoteric Happy Ending: If you take the ending as the Beaty family making it into the afterlife, then it should be a happy ending... but in the final seconds of the film, a very noticeable Scare Chord starts playing, as if something ominous is about to happen, complete with a final shot of Ray looking at his family before turning away.
