- Dueling Works: Despite their wildly different tones, AI Builds is sometimes compared to Sheriff Domestic as both series take clear inspiration from Petscop.
- He Really Can Act: Alex, the series' creator, portrays Nicholas' condition in a very believable and realistic light throughout the series. It's telling that many of the top comments in the later videos are outright expressing concern for the real creator's mental state.
- Realism-Induced Horror: The series is very genuine in its depiction of trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. This can hit very close to home for some, particularly those who have struggled with similar problems in real life. Nicholas' breakdown at the start of build 0.0.8 is a particularly cited example, with many viewers who struggle with anxiety saying that it's one of the most lifelike depictions of a nervous breakdown that they've seen.
- The Woobie: It's really hard not to feel for Nicholas.
