Chapter 1

El Blaze & the King is a webcomic written and illustrated by Lito Perezito - of Fear Effect Sedna fame - that first started publication in late 2022 and acts as a crossover between the Tekken and Virtua Fighter fighting game franchises. In contrast to much crossover media, especially fanmade ones, El Blaze & the King features very few characters from the video games it's inspired by, and is more of a character-driven drama.

The story primarily follows El Blaze (Miguel Ángel), from Virtua Fighter 5, participating in a wrestling competition against the King (Juan David), from Tekken. With the best wrestlers of Mexico competing, El Blaze has been chosen as the King's last opponent, with the winner receiving a cash prize. Things start to get complicated when Miguel Ángel and Juan David first meet in the civilian identities, unaware of who the other is, and begin to fall for one another. Even more so as Miguel Ángel and Juan David both have a lot riding on winning the prize, and their relationship could jeopardize their chances at winning.

The webcomic provides examples of:

  • Masked Luchador: Both El Blaze and King fit the bill, albeit somewhat differently. Although Miguel Ángel looks the part a lot more than Juan David, the latter is more similar to how such characters are often depicted in Mexican media; a Gentle Giant who loves children.
    • In fact, Juan David's desire to win the money for the orphanage form a large part of the story's plot and his own character arc. As well as being the source of some conflict.
  • Named In The Adaptation: Neither El Blaze nor King have their real names revealed in their home franchises. Here, the former's is Miguel Ángel, and the latter's Juan David.
  • Rape as Backstory: Miguel Ángel was sexually assaulted by his foster father.
