Post-Release
A sequel to this film might possibly explore the aftermath of America's collapse, not unlike a Mad Max style world. American society might be broken down into different warring factions who will be attempting to purge each other. The American political commentary could continue with two major factions (In the manner of Democrats vs Republicans) blaming each other for America's fallout while a silent majority suffers.
This world is a possible past time to Minority Report where most people got tired of murder and wanted peace desperately.
The quasi-police state was a result of the populace pleading for higher security and the Department of Precrime was a major key to eliminating murder altogether. Since the film takes place in 2054, it can be assumed that that at least Washington DC recovered and regained a measure of stability after The Forever Purge. The swift and merciless response to future murders seems to fit in with this.
