WMG / The Age of Madness

Rikke chose to give up the Long Eye

She keeps saying that she had to choose between her visions and her sanity, but she never says outright that she chose her visions, just implies it. She is also never shown from her own point of view to have a vision after the choice is made, only claiming that she's had them. It will turn out that she decided that being believed to be a mad prophet was a lot more useful than actually being one. Supporting evidence would be that the visions she states tend to support her own aims, such as describing her ambition to sit on Skarling's Chair as an inevitability. However, the Long Eye is explicitly said to be her left eye, and her right eye is the one that becomes blinded. Also, some of her subsequent prophecies that come true, such as Greenaway's death on water, would have to either be lucky breaks or rather implausibly accurate predictions.

  • The Wisdom of Crowds reveals that she has indeed mostly stopped having visions, though it's left unsaid if that was the choice she made. The accurate predictions she did make are explained as her remembering things she saw before the visions stopped.
