    Pre-release theories

Bellisarius killed the "slain king."
The Evil Chancellor and Regent for Life are common tropes for a reason.
  • Not clarified either way by Part One's release. He does have what the closed captions describe as a "royal staff", though.
  • Confirmed in Part 2
Darrian will join the fight on Veldt but Devra will not.
Devra wasn't revealed until some time after Darrian, implying she might not be part of the main group. Zack also characterizes Devra as more of a level-headed commander while Darrian is more of a hot-headed zealot.
  • In this character promo, Devra tells an offscreen person that coming to her put her group in danger and orders them to leave. It's possible she's talking to Kora and her group.
    • Confirmed that Devra does not join the main fight, while Darrian does; however, the fight takes place on an "unregistered trading outpost" and not on Veldt.

    Post Part 1 release theories

Sam is Princess Issa
All the Jimmys became incapable of violence when the Royal Family was assassinated. But Jimmy was able to fire a gun to protect Sam.
This is a far future D&D campaign
The bennu was obviously a gryphon. When Tarak was trying to tame it, he was just rolling Animal Handling. Hickman also rolled for Animal Handling, but rolled a nat one. Harmada is either a Neogi or Kruthik. Princess Issa's super-special healing powers? She's a cleric (or paladin) and cast Revivify on the dead bird. The powers are so "rare" because she's a caring and compassionate person in the Imperium, and its resident god (Noble refers to a capital-G God in a throwaway line, but it could just be the one the Imperium worships) didn't find anyone worthy enough until then.

Kai turns on the group so quickly because his player was sick of the character; Motti joins so quickly to give the player another character. The Resistance are helpful NPCs.

Possible fantasy elements in Part 2
  • An elemental temple of some kind. The heroes will have to explore it to find a plot coupon or appeal to the local spirits.
  • Pegasi or other flying creatures.
  • Structures similar to those in the background of Levitica.

There was nothing moral about Athander's suspension of conquest
Rather, it was pure Pragmatic Villainy: the Imperium's military logistics infrastructure was getting increasingly overstretched and falling apart, and halting further conquests in favour of consolidating what they already had was simply meant to be a temporary albeit indefinite measure while issues like that was sorted out. Of course, war hawks like Balisarius were too focused on the perceived glory of war to take into account practical considerations like that.
