Reverend Ritz was one of the original nudists.
The ending reveals him to be one of the zombies, and heavily implies that he sets up these religious retreats at a dangerous place on purpose. He vehemently insists that the last deaths were just an accident, and seems dismayed at Shelly's survival when she confronts him.He was among the nudists who killed themselves rather than be run off the land in shame, and disguised himself as a minister (possibly with a mask, or heavy makeup to hide the zombie-green of his skin). He gave sermons he knew the fundies would approve of and convinced them to send their "troubled" kids to the deadly retreats, where they died gruesome deaths. This is his way of getting revenge on the Christians who stole his home.
