The Greater-Scope Villain is Mima.
Jossed, it's the Watatsuki sisters.

The Plans of the Moon People
What is the Moonlight Descent Ceremony? And the Human Instrumentality Project?By driving Gensokyo insane and breaking the Great Hakurei Barrier, what are they trying to achieve?
  • They are going to "save" the humans from the "aliens" and with the humans' absolute trust, take complete control over Earth.
  • They will let both sides destroy each other and take over what remains of Earth.
  • Jossed. The Human Instrumentality Project, which consists of making world peace and driving Gensokyo insane and turning them into monsters so they would be exterminated later on. By that, the Lunarians wanted to purify the Earth so that the Moon would be reunited with the Earth, having been Star-Crossed Lovers in the past, before the Earth became tainted by the satori creatures.
  • Also, the Moonlight Descent Ceremony is the Watatsuki's plan to repopulate the Earth with satori creatures.

The reason Koishi has grayish white hair in this story instead of grayish green color like in Canon storyline.
  • It is possibly hinted in Episode 19 8/9 that Koishi may be Eirin's daughter. Eirin used Kaguya's DNA from a single strand of her hair and combined Kaguya's DNA with her own reproductive organ to give birth to a child, so Kaguya didn't have to return to the Lunar Capital City.
  • Also it is hinted that Satori may not be related by blood with Koishi in this story.
    • Confirmed in Episode 19 - 4/9. Toyohime specifically says that Koishi accidentally fell off a Lunar spaceship and Satori found her on Earth while the latter was wandering around, adopted her as if she was a real sister. Also, Koishi is not even her "real name", that name was given by Satori.

There are some minor characters who managed to stay alive after Moonlight Descent Ceremony
  • There is no confirmation other than those who were shown as deceased.
  • Until it is confirmed as otherwise, it is safe to think that Doremy Sweet is in the Dream World, Shinki and the others are in Makai, Konngara is in Hell (Jigoku). All three realms are in separate existence from Gensokyo therefore they should not be affected by the events happening there.
  • Part 19 (1/9) shows Maribel Hearn and Renko Usami attending class in a university of Outside World. Until Part 19 (8/9) was uploaded in 2016 and translated into English in 2017, there is no confirmation about their death or potential involvement in the main storyline.
    • Speaking of the Sealing Club, a mention could be Sumireko Usami too (Renko's ancestor), but even then... it would very much cause a paradox in and on itself. Why? That's easy: Renko and Maribel's appearance was in episode 19/1 (dated as 2014/7/9), and towards episode 19/5 (2015/10/31) we are get to be introduced with the Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom Crew (who's game was released as back as 2015/8/14). "Yeah, but what does it has to do about Sumireko?" you may askI know. well, Sumireko's game Urban Legend in Limbo was released as far back as 2015/5/10, while the entire story (starting from episode 1 towards 19/3) happened in the October 4 of a not specified era (not counting the flashbacks, we know that everything that Koishi and Satori lived was the 1980's) and since Subterranean Animism was release in 2008/8/16 it meant that they may have entered gensokyo in the late 1990's and early 2000s; Sanae's back story took place in the early 2000s, and her game (mountain of faith) happened in 2007/8/17. Plus counting Kokoro's appearance in episode 19/3 and 19/8's flashback, it's safe to assume that it took place AFTER Hopeless Masquerade (2013/5/26). "Yeah, but Sumireko?" I KNOW. The point i'm trying to speak is that in any way shape or form, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to include Sumireko in there (since she's technically an acestor for Renko, her getting into lunacy, turning into a kaiju and then die (or just die) would create a paradox that would alter the sealing club, not to mention her ability to astral project herself too, leading us to the question that she would get lunacy in the outside world? (an outside world that MIND YOU: has forgotten any sort of violence and death.) Her being Retgone it's very much a safe thing for this Alternate World. Or, if she's alive but it's just a different relative to Renko (like a sister or a cousin), it's neither that she survived the lunacy happening outside, or die thanks to it. but that would also make us question if Renko knows if her sister is alright or she doesn't care about her (or, any of her family for that matter)?

Touhou PC-98 characters will come and help the survivors fighting against Big Bad.

Okina Matara will come and rebuild Gensokyo. However, the "New Gensokyo" would be different from the previous one, with the absence of Hakurei Shrine, Eientei, Chireiden and many other unique places.

Yukari commits suicide shortly after 8/9.
  • Resenting Koishi was her main reason for still living at that point, and with that third eye open, she's well and truly lost everything.

Kaguya Houraisan will break free from her prison to help Koishi (and Yukari, if she survives to the end) fighting Koakuma and Toyohime.
  • Their main goal will be having Koishi (and Yukari) infiltrate Lunar Capital to assassinate Koakuma so the absorbed souls can be released and Lunar Capital will be instantly flooded with "impurity", thus leaving the Lunarians vulnerable. Sounds absurd, but with Kaguya as an inside helper, it won't be too far-fetched.

How will the series end?
In all seriousness, this series has been in hiatus ever since 2016, and with 4 main installment games, 4 side games (3 side games if we don't count Violet Detector), and 2 ongoing manga (and the end of Wa HH and FS), we have also some more characters too. (granted, some may have either died, turned into kaiju and then died off-screen, or in case of the martriach families, their turf being cut off and save from the Lunacy). But returning to main question at hand, How will the series end? While i may not be a clairovoyant, i have some theories on how it would end:

A) Nothing, the Lunarians wins, Koishi will still live in her delusions while Yukari will neither commit suicide or just be too sad enough to not do something productive (And we still don't know what Renko and Maribel are doing)

B) Rebellion: Koishi will somehow try to cheer Yukari up, and since they're two agaisnt Toyohime, Koakuma and a bazillion of moon rabbits (and maybe a few Vijokas?), this would quite a battle scene to have.

C)The same thing that this User 4 entries above said, aka, Rebuilding of Gensokyo.

D)The same as B), but just Koishi. Yeah, Just Koishi. No Yukari, No Deus ex Machina, no closed eye, no NOTHING (Except Mr. Hat, of course), she goes towards the Lunarian Stronghold, and then tries to go towards someone and then battles it. (bonus point if a moon rabbit, or a human being enrolled into the lunarians rank, shoots at Koishi's hat, and then we get a callback at episode 2, when Koishi goes nuts against everyone around her... until Toyohime/Koakuma enters though.)
