- Un-Canceled: In a surprise announcement on August 9th, 2018, it was revealed that Runic Games founder Max Schaefer had founded a new studio, Echtra Games, during the development of Hob in 2016, and obtained the rights for Torchlight through Perfect World. It was also announced that this studio was founded with the intent of reviving the Torchlight MMO idea with Torchlight Frontiers, a new entry in the series, developed by most of the original Runic team, set to release in 2019. After a period of closed testing, the game was redesigned and rebranded as Torchlight III, dropping many of the MMO aspects in favor of a traditional Action RPG experience. It was released on October 13, 2020, with continued development from Perfect World-affiliated studios after Echtra Games was purchased by Zynga.
