• Beam Me Up, Scotty!: it wasn't Marilyn French herself who made the comment about all men being rapists that is commonly attributed to her. It was Val, a character in the book, and the narrative makes it clear that she is not necessarily in the right (bearing in mind that Mira, the point of view character in that scene, is the mother of two sons, in a relationship with Ben, and clearly very upset at Val's words).
