• Backed by the Pentagon: A rare French example as the actual Marine Nationale has cooperated with the director and actors. The filming was allowed to happen in the actual naval base of the nuclear submarines, the actors were allowed to spend time aboard said submarines, and the crew could film the submarines during their exercices. The director being a diplomat helps.
• Playing Against Type: Omar Sy, who's more or less specialized in comedic roles, was cast in a dramatic one in this film − although he still cracks the occasional joke.
