• Deleted Scene: The final film has a continuity error; during the ship sequence, an axe is seen hanging on a wall, but then it suddenly vanishes. This is due to Chaplin filming - but then cutting - a gag involving the axe.
• Enforced Method Acting: Edna Purviance's character doesn't seem to be enjoying her meal of beans, which is appropriate for someone who is sad after the death of her mother and living in apparent near-poverty. In reality, it was because Chaplin demanded so many takes of her eating the stuff, she was barely able to swallow any more by the time he was satisfied.
