Trivia / The Heavenly Kid

Go To

  • California Doubling:
    • Most of the film was shot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
    • The high school scenes were filmed at North Miami Senior High School in North Miami, Florida.
    • The subway scenes were filmed on MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) of Atlanta, Georgia.
  • Dueling Works: The Heavenly Kid and Back to the Future came out during the same month of 1985, and the comparisons are striking. Both films involve an '80s teen meeting his '50s/early '60s teen father, with the main difference being which one crosses into the other's time period. In both films, the teen crossing time periods is cool, and the other teen is a hopeless nerd. In both films, the cool teen helps the nerd to stop being a wimp and get a girlfriend. In both films, the cool teen is mentored by an eccentric older man who constantly tells him not to interfere with things. And both films end with a vehicle taking off into the sky. Of course, Back to the Future was the hands-down winner, becoming the highest grossing film of the year, whereas The Heavenly Kid was a flop.
  • Working Title: Heavenly Bodies
