- Saved from Development Hell: The Heart of Storms was conceived very early after the release of Warcraft III, before The Frozen Throne was even released. By 2006, the mod reached a closed beta status, but started to go downhill from 2008; with StarCraft II looming on the horizon, many team members believed it would supplant Warcraft III for good. In 2010, development was officially frozen until 2017, though work only restarted in earnest in 2021 before the first playable version was released to the public in 2023.
