• Enforced Method Acting: Heidecker and some of the other actors would get legitimately drunk in the alcohol scenes. The beer on camera is actual alcohol and is not substituted.
• Harpo Does Something Funny: Large parts of dialogue is entire improvised; In fact, the script was less than 20 pages long, and mostly consisted of describing what the scene would be about.
• Throw It In!: The scene where Swanson chats with the patrons at the bar was actually real; Those were non-actors who happened to be there on set, and their reactions to Tim are genuine.
