Trivia / Swinging Safari

Go To

  • Blooper: Many of the film's background extras wore anachronistic brands and styles of clothing that were not available in the film's setting of 1975, most notoriously several modern pairs of Bonds underwear with branded waistbands.
  • Distanced from Current Events: Stephan Elliott originally titled the film Flammable Children, over the protests of the film's backers who thought such a title would cause audiences to mistake it for a horror film; however, the deaths of several children in the Grenfell Tower fires in London, England the year before the film's release resulted in the film's title being changed to Swinging Safari in most territories.
  • Write What You Know: The film's director and writer Stephan Elliott largely based the film on his own childhood, particularly his penchant for shooting dangerous "movies" with his friends and neighbour.
  • Write Who You Know:
    • Melly is based on Lizzy Gardiner, Stephan Elliott's costume designer and longtime friend.
    • Bec is based on one of Elliott's neighbours rather than his own sister, as he said his own sister's childhood was quite "dull and ordinary".
