Trivia / Sixteen (Korean Reality)

  • Creator's Favorite:
    • This is the reason Momo was brought back from elimination to be in Twice. Sort of. Even as he kicked her off the show, JYP praised Momo, telling her that each of her performances was better than previous ones and heavily implied he didn't want to get rid of her but the rules he'd set for the episode hamstrung him. Then his trainers told him about her hard work in the dance studio following her elimination, which convinced him his hesitancy over cutting her was correct and she deserved to be in Twice.
    • Jihyo arguably counts as well. She had by far the longest training period at JYPE and spent at least half of that time being essentially the collective child of every talent at the agency. When she was fat-shamed to her face by that horrifically ugly photographer, JYP briefly gave the woman a Death Glare that could melt steel before pretending to laugh it off since they were on camera in front of hundreds of people.
  • Fandom-Enraging Misconception: It's no secret that a number of MNet's K-Pop elimination shows have been rigged. SIXTEEN was hit with the same accusations after JYP added Tzuyu and especially Momo to Twice despite their failing to make the final cut. In the face of considerable backlash from netizens and fans of the seven other eliminated girls, JYPE further explained its reasoning for adding the two girls to the lineup – Unlike most of the network's elimination shows, this one was looser with its rules because JYP was judging girls to debut in his own company's group and it was made obvious from the start that he would have the final say.

While there is some reason to believe SIXTEEN was "rigged" to an extent, Momo and Tzuyu being rescued from purgatory is not proof of it.
  • Hey It's That Song!: The show's producers used many popular English-language songs as background music.
    • The three songs performed on the finale were given Updated Re-Releases on Twice's first EP The Story Begins. Some fans have stated a preference for the Sixteen version of "Truth" due to Chaeryeong's longer rap bridge which is missing in the Twice version.
    • "I'm Gonna Be A Star" was also resurrected for a brief series of special stages on music shows in June of 2016 (it's the final track on physical copies of Twice's second EP Page Two), much to Nayeon's chagrin. She performed the scratch-track used on this show, then recorded it again for Twice. And no, she didn't get to just say the line once and have computers take care of the rest. She did the majority of those vocal skips in the studio and live. Do not mention it in her presence.
  • Written by Cast Member: Natty impressed JYP in one episode by developing the choreography she performed for a mission by herself.

Eliminations

  • Episode 3: Chaeyeon (JYP felt she failed the photoshoot due to inexperience and trying too hard)
  • Episode 4: Eunsuh (she forgot part of her choreography so JYP cut her immediately after)
  • Episode 6: Momo (this was an audience vote – she was the least-liked of the losing group)
  • Episode 9: Jiwon (JYP cut her due to offbeat dancing and unstable vocals)
  • Episode 10: Natty, Somi, Minyoung (cut from Major group); Tzuyu, Chaeryeong (cut from Minor group)
    • Epilogue: Tzuyu was added to the final lineup due to popularity; Momo was added by JYP himself
