  • Banned in China: Needless to say, the Internet Archive has quite the history of troublesome overseas relations. For one thing, its famous Wayback Machine is not allowed in the European Union because of their copyright laws (though that doesn't stop it from archiving its sites, nor does it make it inaccessible). There were also many cases where other countries (including India and, yes, China) would try and sometimes succeed in blocking the Internet Archive from being accessed within their borders.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • The Archive is a popular tape-circulating site, most famously for The Grateful Dead concerts.
    • Anytime a server error comes up, expect this trope to happen for many websites.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers:
    • A Nintendo Power collection was taken off the Archive after Nintendo noticed it.
    • During the early days of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Internet Archive temporarily opened up much of its online library of books without lending restrictions which they called the National Emergency Library. This led to four major book publishers filing a lawsuit against the Internet Archive in June 2020 for copyright infringement, forcing the National Emergency Library to end early on June 16, 2020, two weeks before the earliest possible date it would have ended.
