Trivia / Georgette Heyer

  • God Never Said That: The 1950 film adaptation of The Reluctant Widow bore little resemblance to the book, and so far is the only screen adaptation of any of Heyer's works. Some fans assume that means Heyer hated the film so much that she refused to allow any others. Some even go as far as claiming she wrote this refusal into her will. In reality there's no evidence of this. Heyer sold the film rights to several of her other books and it seems to have been just plain bad luck that prevented them being adapted. And she made no anti-adaptation stipulations in her will, so there's nothing to prevent a filmmaker from buying the rights to any book they want to adapt.
