Trivia / Freakies

  • Referenced by...: The cereal was parodied by Wacky Packages as "Flunkies" in the 2011 "Old School Series 2" collection.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Plans for an eighth Freakie were considered before the cereal's ending. Set to be based on Wells Rich Greene founding president and chairman Mary Wells Lawrence, her name would have been "Nifty Nifty" (after a phrase Lawrence would often say). She would have been a pink aristocratic Freakie that considered the others to be "peasants", and would have tied in with a strawberry or raspberry-flavored pink cereal.
    • A variety of promotional pack-ins and tie-ins for the cereal were considered, but never released further than concept art. Some of these included rulers, kazoos, bike decorations, and a growth chart.
  • Write Who You Know: All of the Freakies were based on people that creator Jackie End knew relating to Wells Rich Greene:
    • BossMoss was based on Charlie Moss, the president of Wells Rich Greene.
    • Snorkledorf was based on Stan Dragoti, co-creative director of Wells Rich Greene.
    • Gargle was based on a British writer from Wells Rich Greene.
    • Goody-Goody was based on Grace Feldman, head of personnel at Wells Rich Greene. End admits she based Feldman on her in a pang of bitterness over not getting something for her office.
    • Grumble was based on a former older worker of the office.
    • Hamhose is the only Freakie not to be based on someone from the office. Instead, his personality comes from Pigpen, a cat End used to own.
    • Finally, Cowmumble is based on Jackie End herself, or rather, herself four years prior to the creation of Freakies.
