- Abandonware: As the games are out of production, some people have been printing and selling their own sets - labeled as "replacement parts".
- People eventually use up their crayons.
- There's various factors in play in finding a replacement. Different games used different gameboard coatings in different printings.
- Before you actually play with any new crayon or dry/wet erase markers, test it out on a seldom-used part of the map. Wait ten minutes or so and erase it to see if it stains. You don't want to learn this after covering the map!
- It's hard to find specific "crayon rail crayons" anywhere, and people debate back and forth online on which is or are best. Most people have found Crayola Washable Crayons to be a good, quality replacement for a most but not all boards. You can try cheaper, off-brand washable crayons but some can be hard to see on the board.
