  • Blooper
    • The prison warden hands Dolemite a cigarette, stops to light one for himself, and reaches over to light Dolemite's, but the match has already gone out, so he awkwardly sits down and goes to his next line, leaving Dolemite holding an unlit cigarette for the rest of the scene.
    • While most of the fight scenes are clumsily executed, Dolemite's final kick after his cocaine bust clearly misses its target by several inches.
    • As the crowd cheers Dolemite's big performance at his club, Mama Bee calls him Rudy Ray, the actor's name.
    • "Samurai" is misspelled in the credits as "Samari"
  • Creator's Apathy: According to the original cinematographer, Nicholas Josef von Sternberg, director D'Urville Martin was pretty much drunk the entire time they filmed the movie and was so indifferent that he once directed a scene while lying down on the floor.
  • Descended Creator: The film's director, producers and writers all appear as major characters in the film.
  • No Budget: Made on a budget of $100,000 and it shows.
  • Sleeper Hit: Nobody at the time thought this movie would stand out in the blaxploitation genre. Then it made $12 million.
  • Write What You Know: Rudy Ray Moore was a club performer, so he made sure to include club management and performances in his pimp revenge kung fu film. He also carved out a significant portion of the running time for his personal brand of rhyming comedy.
